![]() Zorin also has the benefit of changing layouts to other types of navigations. I'm a sucker for the simplicity of the Cinnamon desktop, but I'm also for Zorin. On 10~12 year old PCs, both Zorin and Mint are equal. Mint is very, VERY good on old PCs (think 14 years+), but depending on the usage, you might want to get even better distros on that regard (Peppermint, Solus, MX, and others). Performance-wise, many distros are better than it. The only reason Lite would be an option is if you're used with Zorin. Right off the bat, I'll say that if you have a very old computer, and you're considering Zorin Lite. I'm also taking the perspective of a new windows user, since that is why those distros are for. But I recently had to install and use mint. You'll see that I'm a bit biased towards Zorin, but that is mostly because my experience had mint pushing me away years ago. Most other distros want the user to be very involved, which is good and all but I've learned over the years that most people just want to know if they can use the web, get their email, create an office document, and zorin offers that.Īlright, this will be long because coincidentally I was writing that down:īoth systems are great and fill very similar niches, it is honestly a shame Zorin isn't talked more on Reddit when recommending windows-like distros. I have decades of linux experience and I happen to love Zorin for its simplicity, because while at one point I wanted to fiddle around, today I just want to get things done with as little trouble and distractions as possible. Pop is more developer oriented, Mint is more of a traditional linux user distro, I find that zorin aims to reach a broader audience that is very new to linux and has very little computer experience, which is what every distro should aim if they want to appeal to more people. I've also found that with zorin, everything literally just works, from nvidia drivers to any of the pre installed apps and new ones. PoP and mint are more flexible so if you want more control on the look and feel, they are better choices. With that said, it is also a bit more restricted when it comes to customization, as it already offers desktop layouts already pre-configured which are one click away. So if you just want to get into the desktop, I think Zorin is a great choice. I've found myself tweaking Pop and Mint after install. All easily install but I've found that ZorinOS is literally just ready upon boot. ![]() ![]() To make it simple for you, ZorinOS offers the closest thing to a windows OS.
